Online workshop: Running church groups online
February 6, 2021 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm
Many parishes are seeing online groups as part of their long-term strategy, recognising that the downside of not being together in person is more than offset by increased accessibility of online groups. However it can feel like a minefield to get started. This workshop series will look at:
Week 1: Foundations (January 16th 10.30-12noon)
-
- Who is your group for and what is its purpose
- Pros and cons of online groups – what will work for you?
- Help needed: finding co-hosts and moderators
- A quick low-tech primer on online security
- What are you going to do – choosing appropriate content
- How to get people to come along

Week 2: Running a session (February 6th 10.30-12noon)
- Leading your group: welcome and house rules
- How to make your group interactive – using chat, breakout groups, showing videos etc
- Maintaining mometum between meetings
- Keeping everyone safe: confidentiality and disclosures
- Leading prayer
The workshops are suitable for anyone looking to get groups going online. Week 2 will be helpful for any of the co-hosts and moderators that get recruited after week 1!

Please note: we will not be talking about groups for children and under 18s as additional safeguarding rules apply. Please contact Neil Roseman for youth ministry queries (neil@nymo.org) or Alex Heath for anything to do with catechetical groups (heath@nores.org.uk). Danielle Dixon is our safeguarding officer, safeguarding@northamptondiocese.com, and lots of advice can be found on the CSAS website: https://www.csas.uk.net/procedures-manual/#cat-4.
